Garmin Approach S10 Golf Watch Review

Garmin is a well known golf brand that offers everything from watches, GPS devices, launch monitors, and more.

They’re also a top brand in other activities including automotive, marine, and aviation, so you can trust this brand.

What’s great about Garmin is that they have a watch for every type of golfer – from a recreational golfer to someone who plays daily. They also have a watch for every type of budget, from $150 to $3,000 or more.

The Garmin Approach S10 golf watch is one of their more moderately priced watches that won’t break the bank.

At $149 it has a lot of features that simply aren’t possible with a standard laser rangefinder and can help you play better golf.

Some of the highlights of this golf watch include:

  • Three color options.
  • 1.3 inch high resolution easy to read screen.
  • More than 43,000 preloaded golf courses.
  • Battery life allows you to play up to 12 hours of golf and significantly longer in smartwatch mode.

Let’s get into some of the specifics to see why we’re such big fans of this Garmin golf watch.

43,000+ Preloaded Golf Courses

One aspect that is tough to beat with any Garmin golf watch is the huge selection of golf courses. The Garmin library has more than 43,000 courses around the world. Download the ones you play most often to give you a leg up on your competitors.

The course provides detailed information about each hole including distance, layout, green view, and more. This makes it easier than ever to pick the right line off the tee, choose the right clubs for different shots, and swing with trust.

Know Your Score Feature

Don’t let score keeping bog you down during the round. As Garmin mentioned,

“For added convenience, keep score right on your Approach S10. At the end of your round, it provides a summary of your round showing total distance played, total time and score.

And as a remarkably comfortable everyday watch, it also displays the current time and date plus sunrise and sunset times.”

Additionally, this watch provides distances to the front, middle, and back of the green.

This makes it easier to pick the right club for approaches to front or back pins and hopefully not get yourself in as much trouble around the greens. This includes distances to doglegs and hazards too.

Other Features

  • Sleek and lightweight.
  • Track your game with Garmin Express.
  • Green contour data. Use the Garmin golf app to learn the contours of the green on your smartphone (not available on the watch). This will help with approaches, pitch shots, and putting as if you’re using a professional yardage book.

This golf watch unfortunately doesn’t have any health/fitness trackers like a lot of others in the Garmin lineup. But it has plenty of technology to help you on the golf course.

Top Questions

Is the Garmin S10 any good?

Yes, it’s one of the best priced watches in golf. But sadly it’s been discontinued so you’ll have to go with the S12 which is similarly priced and has even more features.

Unlike a handheld GPS device, it’s much easier to map out each hole and pull the right club for any shot. It’s also a lot more beneficial than rangefinders, as it can provide information about every hole layout and detailed green contours.

If you want even more features from a golf watch, it might make sense to buy the S70 (read our full review here). Or, if you really want to splurge, make sure to check out reviews of the Garmin MARQ 2 Golfer now.

Which is better, Garmin S10 or S62?

The higher the number, the more features that are included with Garmin golf watches. While the S10 has a lot of perks, the S62 has even more features to help your game. It has a bigger screen, larger battery life, customizable watch faces, and goes well beyond the golf course too.

Is the Garmin S10 also a watch?

Yes, it works as a normal smartwatch and helps you benefit on the golf course. Plus, it’s really easy to use.

The watch will do the work for you and help you have more information about every shot during the round.

Some of their other watches have even more tech to provide data about wind, elevation, temperature, and more. Not to mention club recommendations from the virtual Caddie system.

Is the Garmin S12 better than the S10?

The S12 is the upgraded version of the successful S10. Click here to read our full review of the Garmin S12 now.

Closing Thoughts

Garmin makes some of the best watches in golf, so you can buy with confidence. The S10 Approach has a ton of great features to help you strategize each hole and hopefully shoot lower scores.

The one downside is that it doesn’t pair with Approach CT10 trackers to analyze your game. Sadly, it’s been discontinued, but the S12 took its place and has some nice upgrades at the same price.

Also, check out the Garmin Approach S42 if you want a few more features to help your game.
