Garmin S42 GPS Smartwatch Review – Is It Worth Your Money?

In golf, the more you know, the better you play. Of course, this goes beyond just your experience. I’m talking about your knowledge of the particular course you’re playing at.

It’s impossible to remember the details of every golf course you play at. That’s why you might want to get a Garmin S42 smartwatch and drastically improve your game.

Product Overview

Garmin was the first company to set foot in the aviation industry for GPS navigation products. Over the years, they have expanded to include GPS products for automotive, outdoor, and even the fitness market.

The S42 is one of Garmin’s mid-range smartwatches specifically designed to assist golfers. The Garmin S42 comes preloaded with information on 42,000+ golf courses from around the world. The smartwatch can show you the shape and distance of the green from you.

Pros

  • Legal to use in tournaments
  • Easy to use
  • Improved performance in golf

Cons

  • Weak signal in some golf courses
  • The screen may be hard to see under bright sunlight

General Features

The Garmin S42 is equipped with everything you might need for a good game of golf. Here are some of the features this smartwatch has.

Long Battery Life

The Garmin S42 has 15 hours of battery life when used in GPS mode. You can use the watch to track your scores and navigate the course. It’s possible to do this for three rounds of golf without any issues.

High Tech Golf GPS Smartwatch

It’s easy to navigate the Garmin S42’s interface with its large touchscreen. The display is also in full color. You can connect it to your iPhone or Android and it will give you all the data you could possibly need.

What I like about this smartwatch is it’s possible to analyze your strokes when you pair it with their app. Moreover, you can track your steps, calories, and sleep with the watch. It’s a great tool to help you stay fit.

Usable for Every Day

The Garmin S42 isn’t just for golf. The battery can last up to 10 days in smartwatch mode. As a smartwatch, you can receive emails, texts, and alerts when you pair it with your smartphone.

You can also check the weather, set alarms, and find your phone with the watch.

For everyday wear, there’s a wide range of interchangeable strap designs you can choose from.  The watch itself also comes in three stylish colors. With all the different designs, you can change the look of your watch to suit any occasion.

GarminS42 Unique Selling Points

Here are some of the features of this watch that set it apart from the rest:

1.   Compete With Your Friends

The Garmin Golf app analyses your strokes and records your scores. You can then see this on a leaderboard in the app. What’s exciting is you can invite your friends to participate in tournaments within the app.

2.   Monitors Health

Using the Garmin Connect app, you can monitor your sleep and hydration. The watch can learn your activity level and assign you a daily step goal. There’s even a feature to track women’s health.

3.   Waterproof

The Garmin S42 has a water rating of 5ATM. This means that the watch is functional even when you’re swimming and snorkeling. The smartwatch can withstand pressures up to 50 meters in depth.

Being waterproof means that the watch can also be used when you’re golfing in snowy conditions.

How’s Garmin S42 Compared to Other Versions?

The Garmin S42 is in the mid-range in price. It’s missing some features when compared to the newer Garmin S62. Do note that the Garmin S62 is twice as expensive.

The S42 doesn’t have Virtual Caddie, which factors in wind speed and direction. Because of this, the S42 can’t suggest a club to use, unlike the S62. It also doesn’t have Connect QI, which allows for the watch face to be customized.

Moreover, the Garmin S42 doesn’t have a heart rate sensor and pulse oximeter to detect your oxygen levels like the S62. However, there’s a clear improvement when it’s compared to its predecessor.

Conclusion

Is the Garmin S42 worth it? I’d say yes. If you want to improve your game with minimal effort, then the technology is available for you. It’s not as expensive as other smartwatches out there, so the Garmin S42 might just be the perfect watch for you.
