PXG 0811 X Gen 4 Driver Review

If you are looking for a driver that packs a lot of punch for a fraction of the cost of new releases, look no further. Each year PXG comes out with great irons and in recent years have also started pushing the envelope when it comes to their drivers and woods.

In 2021, they came out with the 0811 X GEN 4 driver that they claim can stack up with some of the top brands in the game, not to mention you can currently buy it for only $249.99!

The PXG 0811 X GEN 4 driver is perfect for the player that is looking for premium technology without overspending. The 0811 X GEN 4 head promotes maximum forgiveness while also lowering spin and increasing distance.

In this article I will go through my thoughts on the 0811 X’s different features and tell you at the end whether or not I think it is worth your money. I will discuss sound and look/feel, forgiveness, distance, stock shaft options, pros and cons, and finally look at some real numbers and give you my recommendation.

For the price that PXG is currently asking, the 0811 X GEN 4 may be the perfect head for you.

PXG 0811 X GEN 4 Driver

The 0811 X GEN 4 driver was one of the top heads on the market in 2021. On their website PXG claimed that in third party testing performed by golf laboratories, their driver came out as both longer and more forgiving.

Worldwide Golf quoted it as “the best driver of 2021,” and Plugged In Golf said, “every shot sounds like you delivered a gut-punch to the golf ball.”

The 0811 GEN 4 driver is also available in a XF and XT version. The XF version promotes maximum forgiveness and high spin, the XT version promotes speed through aerodynamics and is made for tour players, and the X version that we are reviewing in this article promotes a blend of the two.

The 0811 X GEN 4 head is available in 7.5, 9, 10.5, and 12.5 loft heads.  Its stock lie angle is 60 degrees and its stock length is 45.5”.

Look, Sounds, and Feel

With the 0811 X GEN 4 you will notice an aggressively sloped crown which creates a very tall and deep face. I found this very inviting at setup.

Also, the sound and feel of the driver is amazing as they have added a honeycomb polymer insert in the sole of the club that reduces vibration enhancing overall sounds and feel.

This head felt solid on all face locations and was loud at impact but in a good way.

Distance Features

PXG Claims that this driver was longer in third party testing than the SIM 2 driver. It features a hybrid crown with a carbon strip down the center that they say helps to increase stability which in turn helps to increase spring in the club face.

Also, from my experience testing out drivers I have seen big distance gains from ones with deep faces due to their low spin and fast ball speeds.

The face of the 0811 X driver is made of Ti412 titanium alloy, a metal that in their words has an extremely high yield strength and low elastic modulus.

The face creates significant toe deflection and maximum legal spring to increase ball speeds.

Forgiveness Features

Just like many of the other top drivers on the market the 0811 X GEN 4 features a partially carbon crown, reducing its weight and allows the company to redistribute mass around the perimeter of the club. This increases MOI and ultimately forgiveness.

This head also has a feature that I’ve never seen before; robotic polishing. Robotic polishing is a process that ensures face thickness and face curvature are made to design specs.

This in turn increases consistency from head to head so you can be sure the driver you buy is giving you everything that PXG is promising.

I found the 0811 X driver very forgiving but if you are looking for maximum forgiveness, you should check out the 0811 XF GEN 4 driver.

Stock Shafts

PXG offers a lot of different high quality shafts at no upcharge so I have included a link here for you to check all of them out yourself.

Adjustability

The 0811 X GEN 4 driver comes with an adjustable loft sleave that gives players the ability to adjust loft up or down up to 1.5 degrees either way.

The driver also gives players two light weights and two heavy weights on the sole.

These weights can be moved around to promote more forgiveness, distance, draw, or fade.

Something I really like about them is that PXG offers additional weights for purchase that you can use to adjust swing weight.

Pros

  • Price – $249.99 for a driver with this much technology is unbelievable
  • Distance – in third party testing, the 0811 X was longer than the SIM 2
  • Low spin – the sloped crown and deep face promote low spin for high speed high spin players
  • Interchangeable weights allows you to easily adjust ball flight and swing weight

Cons

  • Not the newest driver on the market
  • Slower players that need spin would not get enough spin with this head potentially
  • Some titanium on the crown limits PXG’s ability to have max perimeter weighting and max forgiveness

Real Life Numbers

Recommendation

I personally really liked this driver head and for the price you really can’t beat it. If you are currently playing a driver that is a few years old, do yourself and favor and purchase this head.

For me the 0811 X head was perfect as I have a tendency to spin the ball too much which this driver helped with a ton.

I also found the look of the head to be very inviting as the colors helped me to set up to the ball consistently every time. The sound and feel of this head were also very good as it made a mid pitch crack at impact and felt solid on all face locations.

Do I recommend this driver for everyone? No, I do not.  As you can see in the real life testing, the 0811 X driver is a very low spin head.

It did perform as the longest driver out of the three 0811 options but if you are a slower swinger of the club and need help getting the ball up, the XF head would be a better fit.

However, if you are looking for maximum distance and lower spin, for the price, I would say this would be a great option for you and after testing it myself, I highly recommend it.
