The worst part about being a high swing speed player is that equipment (golf balls included) starts to be more costly. Unfortunately, that hasn’t changed. Golf balls made for high swing speed players are durable, have to help control spin and are made for many of the best players in the world.
We recently tested some of the best golf balls for high swing speed players to see where the best value is.
These are certainly not the cheapest, but these golf balls will perform exactly as they advertise – and that’s worth something!
Best for Low Spin: Titleist AVX
The Titleist AVX golf ball is the lowest spinning in the Titleist lineup. It comes with a Urethane cover that provides a soft feel but the AVX can go a long way. The high flex casing layer inside this three piece ball lowers long game spin and increases roll off the tee.
Many higher swing speed players actually create too much spin in their game, and the Titleist AVX will help lower that. Luckily, it’s still a Titleist ball with a urethane cover, which helps with greenside performance.
Alternative
The Bridgestone Tour B RXS has a similar soft feel, but it also has a lower spin. If you want something that looks and feels like the AVX, this is a good choice. Keep in mind the price will be about the same.
Who’s It For: If you spin the ball too much, especially from the tee box, the Titleist AVX will get you the extra yards.
Best for High Spin: Callaway Chrome Soft X
Now let’s go to the opposite problem for a second. Let’s say you are a high swing speed player but you struggle to stop the ball when playing around the greens. Maybe it’s your angle of attack or technique but you just can’t get it to spin.
That’s where you need the Callaway Chrome Soft X. This one features the Dual SoftFast Core which helps to increase speed and distance while maintaining a soft feel. In addition, you get the urethane cover on the Callaway Chrome Soft X which only helps to increase spin.
Alternatives
If Callaway golf balls aren’t the best fit for your game, consider the Titleist Pro V1. It’s got enough spin to help you get control around the green. When we tested it, the ball was also a little bit longer off the tee.
Who’s It For: When you need spin around the greens, but don’t want to sacrifice distance or feel in any way the Callaway Chrome Soft X is a smart choice.
Best Buy: Vice Pro Plus
I started out by telling you there are not too many golf balls out there that are made for high swing speed players but also affordable. The Vice Pro Plus is one of your best options. This is a 4 piece golf ball that has high performance for high swing speeds.
It’s made with a urethane cover and is known for low spin off the tee and mid- to high spin around the greens. I found that on approach shots, it had great stopping power, but on the shorter chips, it doesn’t quite hold up to a Pro V1.
The best thing about the Vice Pro Plus is the fair price you pay.
Alternative
If the Vice Pro Plus is too firm, you can go back to the Titleist Pro V1 but it’s not going to be the same fair price point.
Who’s It For: High swing speed golfers who want a golf ball that performs without breaking the bank.
Best Driver Distance: Titleist Pro V1x
For pure distance off the tee, the Titleist Pro V1x is going to be your best golf ball for high-swing-speed players. The ball features incredible distance and consistency and is, of course, used by a good number of players on the PGA Tour.
The Pro V1x also has impressive greenside performance. You’ll have no trouble stopping the ball, but it doesn’t spin quite as much as the Pro V1.
Alternative
The TaylorMade TP5x is known for its long-distance and high-launch capabilities. It’s not as spinny as the TP5, so it works better for players with higher swing speed who sometimes need to control spin.
Best Soft Feel: Maxfli Tour S
The Maxfli Tour S is a little more affordable than the TItleist, Bridgestone and Callaway golf balls. In addition it has a really great feel. In fact, of all the golf balls on the list this one had some of the best feel we tested.
The feel comes from a soft urethane cover that also helps with greenside performance. The iron distance with the Maxfli Tour S was also quite good. It’s a very consistent golf ball that doesn’t cut easily and likely doesn’t get the attention it deserves.
Alternatives
The Srixon Q-Star Tour is a good option for a soft feel. It has similar overall performance and a fair value.
Who’s It For: If you find your high swing speed makes contact with the ball a little harsh, the Maxfli Tour S will soften things up.
Best Iron Distance: Bridgestone Tour B RX
The Bridgestone Tour B RX is the best golf ball for iron distance. It features the Gradational Compression Core, a popular technology at Bridgestone. You’ll get enhanced ball speed and distance even on the shorter clubs.
Most golfers with high swing speeds don’t struggle with distance. However, when you can hit your driver 300 yards but still hit your 7-iron 150, there could be problems with your equipment.
Try something like the Bridgestone Tour B RX and see if your game needs the combination of technology and performance.
Alternative
The Callaway Chrome Soft felt a little firmer to us, but still had a really good feel, it also has an impressive distance off the tee.
Who’s It For: The Bridgestone Tour B RX is best if you feel you are using your high swing speeds to maximize distance everywhere but the irons.
Final Thoughts
We tested these golf balls on the course and each one of them has impressive technology. You’ll never find a golf ball that is the best in every single category (feel, distance, spin etc.).
However, you can focus on the strengths and weaknesses of your game and pick one that may be the best overall match.
